The Sufi Message was brought to the West by Hazrat Inayat Khan, who in 1910 traveled to Europe, and subsequently to the U.S., from his native India. He carried what was then a radical teaching for Westerners, namely that all religions are facets of the same diamond of Truth, and that true spirituality is to be found within the heart of each individual. This Message was offered to people of all religions and to people of no religion, as an opportunity for each person to awaken to his or her own unique spiritual path. The essence of this Message is that of Unity, of Spiritual Liberty, and of Love, Harmony and Beauty.

Universal Sufism is a global, even cosmic, spirituality, a mystical path which is in agreement with science and is respectful of all the teachers and scriptures of the world's religions. While best known for its elegant expression through the mystics of Islam, Universal Sufism is a pathway which predates that religion and all others. Its source is the Divine nature of the human soul, which desires to seek and be sought, to recognize and be recognized, and to express Itself ever more fully within our earthly journey.
